Get Involved
In line with the guiding principle: take what you need, and leave what you can, the Mt. Airy Community Fridge & Pantry relies on members of the community, such as you, to help keep our fridge and pantry running for our community.
Here are a few ways to get involved, — supporting our mission and the Mt. Airy neighborhood — no matter your budget. Something not on the list that you think should be? Feel free to reach out with any and all ideas.
Volunteer your time. Our volunteers are the backbone of the fridge & pantry and joining us is a great way to serve the community and give back. If you are interested in joining the team, fill out the volunteer form or send us an email. We can’t wait to meet you!
Volunteers stock shelves, reorganize, help with cleaning and maintenance, update social media, accept deliveries, respond to inquires, work with community partners, and more! There are so many ways to support our mission as a volunteer!
Re/stock the fridge and pantry. Help us fill the fridge, freezer, and dry good pantries. Our volunteers that pick up supplies need assistance moving items from their car and loading them into our units.
Sign up to pick up supplies from one of our community partners. Volunteers must have access to a vehicle to transport items and be able to carry 25-50 lb. boxes/bags.
Come by, say hello to your neighbors, and leave what you can. In the pantry, we can accept unexpired shelf-stable dry goods. Think peanut butter, canned fish, canned vegetables, canned meats, shelf-stable produce – pretty much anything you don’t need to put in a fridge.
In the fridge, we accept produce, dairy products and eggs, and deli products. Frozen foods and raw meats are accepted in the freezer only. We also welcome packaged meals and home-cooked meals labeled with ingredients and an enjoy-by date.
We also take menstruation products (tampons, pads, menstrual cups, etc.), unopened and prepackaged unexpired baby food, and diapers.
Don’t be shy! We ask that you place the donations directly on the shelf or fridge, and not leave boxes or bags on the ground around the pantry area. Please place any trash or compost in the proper receptacles. We cannot accept drugs, alcohol, rotten or spoiled food, canned goods expired for longer than one year (six months for tomato products), clothing, toys, or home goods. If you aren’t sure if we can take it, email us.
Become a Community Partner. Community Partners come in all shapes and sizes. From non-profit organizations to small businesses, churches and apartment complexes, big-box stores and independent contractors; community partners know the value of supporting their neighbors, customers, and constituents beyond their office doors.
Community partners help spread the word about our services, donate supplies, provide volunteers, organize events, raise funds and more! You can read all about our fabulous community partners here. If you are interested in partnering with us, please reach out with this form, via email, or give us a call (267) 415-6532.

Support us from afar. Perhaps you don’t live in Philadelphia or aren’t able to make a trip to the fridge & pantry. No fret, there are still many ways to support the fridge and pantry from afar.
If you can, consider donating money to our Venmo. You can also donate directly to the UU’s of Mt. Airy site or send a check to:
